Andy Liu received his B.M. and M.M. in Piano Performance from the Manhattan School of Music in New York City, where he specialized in the works of Sergei Prokofiev and Franz Liszt. A native of Taipei, Taiwan, Mr. Liu moved to Lakeland, Florida at the age of twelve and studied under the tutelage of the late Robert MacDonald. Mr. Liu’s solo performances have brought him from the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., to the Yamaha Piano Salon and Klavierhaus in New York City, to the Prague International Piano Festival in the Czech Republic. In 2015 his performance of Schumann's Piano Concerto with the Imperial Symphony Orchestra at the historical Youkey Theatre received overwhelming critical acclaim. Most recently, Mr. Liu performed a themed program featuring a variety of transcriptions by Liszt, including Schubert’s Erlkönig, Verdi’s Rigoletto paraphrase and Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony.
Mr. Liu has won competition prizes and his playing has earned him various recognitions, including an honorable mention at the International Wideman Piano Competition. An avid teacher, Mr. Liu has held masterclasses for advanced piano students at the Harrison Arts Center and is faculty at Brooklyn Music House while also maintaining his own private studio.
For the upcoming 2019-2020 season, Mr. Liu will present a lecture-recital at the National Taichung Theater in Taiwan and will appear at Greenwich House Music School and OPERA America in Manhattan, New York, performing a classical program of early to late Romantic composers, as well as a multimedia concert showcasing soundtracks from the Final Fantasy series. In addition to classical music, Mr. Liu’s repertoire extends to include various genres, in particular compositions for film, contemporary media and video game soundtracks.
